Tackling Alzheimer’s™ Disease

BvB Dallas is a non-profit organization that brings young-professionals together to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease research and support organizations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Founded in 2008 by a group of young-professional women, BvB Dallas was created as a way to honor and remember loved ones who have suffered from Alzheimer’s and related diseases.

Each year the organization hosts a variety of fundraising, educational, volunteer, and fun events for Dallas philanthropists to help eradicate this grave disease, culminating in its flagship event – a flag-football game between the Pink Team & Blue Team.

WHY TACKLE AZHEIMER’S?

“I joined BvB because of my grandmother Meme who is currently battling Alzheimer’s and my mother who is her primary caretaker. I’ve seen what this disease does first hand and those who it affects. Being able to be part of an organization who helps fight the battle is something very near and dear to my heart.”

-Alyx Scott, 2023 Pink Captain

Pre- Season Questions

  • Cleats and shorts or pants without pockets are required.

  • No. We encourage everyone to play. We have a variety of backgrounds and all levels of skill- beginner to professional- on our roster.

  • That is completely fine! We will help you find your strengths!

  • It is a joint (purple) practice for all new participants.

  • Practices begin in May and will occur weekly. The blue team practices on Sunday evening from 5-7 pm, and the pink team practices on Wednesdays from 6-8 pm.

  • Practice starts with team announcements, a mission moment, and stretching. We do drills, and most practices end with live scrimmages.

  • We host ten practices per team. While not mandatory, we encourage you to attend at least seven for the best experience.

  • The season officially kicks off with orientation on (TBD).

  • Game Day 2023 is Saturday, August 12th at 7:30pm at The Cotton Bowl.

  • Each year, the BOD (Board of Directors) receives grant applications from beneficiaries interested in receiving funds from BvB Dallas. These local applicants work in research and care for those affected by Alzheimer’s.

  • Mandatory events are orientation, the pre-game dinner (Thursday before the game), and the game (August 13th). We also recommend committing to 7 practices for the best experience.

  • Last year, game day eligibility was determined by raising the minimum amount of $1,250 by game day. We are exploring other options for GDE.

  • That’s fine! We encourage you to join our organization to spread awareness and raise funds for the mission. You can participate as a booster and are not required to play on game-day.

  • On game day, eligible players will get playing time. Our coaches work together to ensure our players receive equitable time on the field.

  • Absolutely! We encourage you to bring friends to events to spread awareness.

Guests are encouraged to attend with the exception of a few events, such as the pre-game dinner.

During Your First Season

  • We are two teams united by one mission. The Pink and Blue teams join forces to “make purple” in our fight to Tackle Alzheimer’s, together.

  • Each week at practice and online a guest speaker - participants, TNT/BOD members, alumni, beneficiaries, and other representatives- shares their ties to our mission. We stay connected through mission moments.

  • We fundraise through BvB hosted events, personal fundraisers (trivia nights, car washes, fitness classes, to name a few examples), securing a sponsorship, social media, and sharing your fundraising page with family/friends. Get inspired by visiting our Fundraising Toolkit.

  • We understand! Communicate with your captains and head coach. They will be tracking attendance at all practices. A quick text message or email is all they need.

You may be subject to a higher Game Day Eligibility Goal at the discretion of the Leadership/ TNT / BOD.

  • The Leaders are ”veteran” (returning) participants that focus on the quality of service in our pillars of the organization: fundraising, partnerships, beneficiaries, community outreach, events, recruitment & rookies, football operations, and marketing & communications.

  • The Neutral Team is a group of former participants selected by Board Members for their proven leadership qualities. They will guide, support and motivate the Leadership Team.

  • The Board Members are a group of nine visionaries that will drive the future of the organization. Their responsibilities are to push the mission, ensure we’re operating in alignment with our values, and unite everyone to the collective vision.
